en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 23, US technology company Orcus Dynamics launched Orcus Sim Studio 2 (OSS2), a next-generation drilling and well control simulation platform for professional training in oil and gas, geothermal development, and CO2 geological storage. The platform was developed over two years in Malaga, Spain, by a team led by technical director Bruno Heredia. It can simulate downhole pressure conditions of up to 10,000 psi (approximately 69 MPa) and supports training in drilling anomaly handling, well control operations, and emergency response under complex conditions.

OSS2 allows trainers to independently create drilling and well control scenarios, adjust downhole pressure, fluid circulation, and operating conditions, and introduce abnormal conditions into the simulated wellbore. For reservoirs undergoing CO2 geological storage, the platform can simulate fluid entry into the wellbore during drilling, enabling operators to practice shut-in, well control, and fault-handling procedures. These functions target subsurface wellbore operations and do not involve surface CO2 capture equipment.

The platform integrates scenario editing, training course management, a graphical operating interface, and video conferencing. It supports both local deployment and cloud-based remote training. Instructors can adjust simulation conditions in real time, observe trainee operations, and use shared training scenarios for repeated exercises and technical assessments.

During development, Orcus Dynamics referenced the technical requirements of the International Well Control Forum (IWCF), the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), and the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP), as well as the American Petroleum Institute API 53 standard. The company has submitted simulator technical documentation to IWCF for review and is concurrently advancing the relevant IADC review process.
