HiddenLayer Provides Security Support for U.S. Nuclear Energy AI Project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 18, U.S. AI security company HiddenLayer confirmed its participation in the Prometheus nuclear energy AI project, providing security technical support for the AI systems involved, with a focus on addressing new attack and vulnerability risks faced by models and applications during development, deployment, and operation.

Prometheus is led by the U.S. Idaho National Laboratory, with Oak Ridge, Argonne, and Sandia National Laboratories as co-participants, alongside universities, nuclear reactor developers, and technology companies. HiddenLayer will contribute to AI system risk identification, vulnerability testing, and model and application protection, though specific technical deliverables, contract amounts, and implementation timelines have not yet been separately determined.
The project was selected for Phase 2 of the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission program on July 22, with a proposed three-year federal funding award of $60 million in total. Funding remains contingent on appropriations and project negotiations. Participating companies have additionally committed to over $200 million in cost sharing, including more than $30 million in industrial capital.
Prometheus plans to apply AI to nuclear reactor design, licensing, manufacturing, construction, and operation, as well as nuclear fuel fabrication and the management of historical nuclear technology documentation. The system will retain human-in-the-loop mechanisms, connecting design requirements, engineering models, safety analyses, and licensing documents through traceable data and workflows.
The project has completed an initial platform prototype and passed validation with prior seed funding support. According to the plan published by Idaho National Laboratory, the production-grade platform is slated for initial deployment on the Genesis Mission platform in March 2027, with a portable version for U.S. Department of Energy and commercial users planned for release later in 2027.
