Aduro Selects Saipem for Engineering of First HCT Facility in the Netherlands
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Aduro Clean Technologies has selected engineering contractor Saipem SpA to provide early engineering and services for its planned First-of-a-kind (FOAK) Hydrochemolytic™ Technology (HCT) facility at Chemelot in the Netherlands. Aduro stated that the cost of this early engineering work will be covered by the company's existing cash resources, requiring no additional financing.
Saipem is a leading company in the design and construction of major engineering projects in the global energy and infrastructure sector, including onshore and offshore operations, with extensive experience in process engineering, modular project execution, downstream facilities, and industrial-scale technology deployment. Aduro believes these capabilities will help strengthen engineering and execution planning, supporting the project's progression toward industrial operations.
This selection followed a comprehensive evaluation and establishes the engineering and project execution framework for Aduro's FOAK program. The parties plan to advance the project using a structured, phased gate execution model, aligning engineering development with technology validation to support an orderly transition from pilot scale to industrial deployment.
The initial phase of collaboration focuses on early engineering and procurement activities, including reviewing the process design package, optimizing key equipment packages, preliminary utility integration, and capital cost refinement. These efforts aim to improve project definition while incorporating operational data obtained by Aduro through its Next Generation Process (NGP) pilot unit. Subsequent phases will proceed in sequence through Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup, subject to the successful completion of each development stage, continued mutual assessment and approval, and the execution of a final agreement.
Aduro plans to align engineering activities with its ongoing pilot testing work, enabling lessons learned from pilot operations to be directly incorporated into the industrial design, reducing execution risk while strengthening the reference design for future commercial deployment. Saipem's involvement during the engineering preparation phase is expected to help optimize facility design, validate key engineering assumptions, and prepare for a potential front-end engineering design phase.
The planned FOAK plant represents the next step in Aduro's commercialization strategy, marking the first industrial-scale application of the Hydrochemolytic™ Technology. The facility is designed to establish the engineering, operational, and economic foundation for future commercial units, providing a replicable execution model for subsequent deployments.
Aduro CEO Ofer Vicus stated that selecting Saipem is a significant milestone in the industrialization of the Hydrochemolytic™ Technology. He noted that as the company moves from pilot scale to industrial implementation, choosing a partner with deep experience in delivering complex process facilities and bringing innovative technologies into commercial operation is critical; both parties share a commitment to a rigorous phased gate approach, allowing engineering decisions to evolve in tandem with the operational knowledge continuously generated by the NGP pilot unit. This integrated development model is expected to strengthen the technical foundation of the FOAK plant while reducing execution risk and enhancing long-term scalability.
Vicus added that by working with Saipem early on, the project can jointly optimize process and engineering decisions, procurement strategies, constructability, and overall project execution as it advances through each development phase.
The FOAK facility is planned for the Chemelot Industrial Park in the Netherlands. Aduro has been advancing multiple parallel workstreams at the site, including permitting, site integration, feedstock logistics, customer engagement, engineering development, and commercialization planning. The collaboration with Saipem is another foundational element of this FOAK program, complementing these activities as the company continues to progress toward industrial deployment.
