Dominican Republic Grants Viettel 240MHz Spectrum in August to Build 5G

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Viettel Group recently obtained the right to use 240MHz of spectrum granted by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) for a period of 20 years, planning to build 5G networks and telecommunications infrastructure in the country. Once operations commence, the Dominican Republic will become the company's 11th international telecommunications market.

Viettel is one of Vietnam's largest telecommunications and technology groups, with a track record of over two decades of investment and operations across 10 overseas telecommunications markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This spectrum grant stems from Resolution No. 073 of 2026 issued by INDOTEL on August 19, under which Viettel Global, the international investment arm of Viettel Group, was awarded 240MHz of spectrum across the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3.6 GHz bands, providing the foundation for deploying 4G and 5G networks.

Under the terms of the tender, the corresponding concession agreement must be signed within 90 days. Viettel Global is also advancing procedures to establish a local entity in the Dominican Republic. Currently, Viettel operates networks in 10 overseas markets, with 7 of its operators ranking among the top mobile operators by local subscriber numbers. The company regards this country as a key component of its next phase of international growth.

In 2025, Viettel's international business revenue reached $3.34 billion, up 23.9% year-on-year, marking the ninth consecutive year of double-digit growth. At the 2026 International Business Awards, Viettel received the highest number of honors among more than 3,800 participating organizations worldwide, with 21 of its 30 awards recognizing its overseas operational achievements.

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest and most dynamic economies in the Caribbean, with continuously rising demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services. Viettel plans to build extensive advanced telecommunications infrastructure in the country, including underserved and remote areas, while expanding access to digital service ecosystems for consumers and businesses.
