Japan Plans to Assist in Building Alternative Oil Pipelines in the Middle East to Bypass Hormuz in August

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Japanese government is taking steps to reduce the risk of oil and gas supply disruptions caused by conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz. The new energy security assurance plan will include assistance in building alternative oil pipelines in the Middle East.

A draft comprehensive energy security plan commissioned by Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae is scheduled for review by the Japanese government on August 26. In addition to infrastructure projects bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, the package of measures also includes reallocating oil procurement to new suppliers, establishing national reserves of naphtha feedstock, and advancing the development of nuclear and renewable energy.

In light of the growing energy consumption of data centers, Japan plans to adopt energy-efficient semiconductors. Additionally, Japan has proposed strengthening cooperation with other countries to jointly build energy reserves.

According to statistics from Japan's Ministry of Finance, oil imports from the Middle East in July this year fell by one-third compared to the same period last year. Since March, crude oil supplies from the Middle East to Japan have been declining due to conflicts surrounding Iran; by July, with increased new supply sources from the United States, Azerbaijan, South Sudan, and Sakhalin, Japan had reduced the share of oil from Persian Gulf countries from over 90% to 62.3%.
