Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines Plans to Advance $40 Billion in Mining Investment Over the Next Five Years

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 26, Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno Huamaní, stated that the government plans to advance approximately $40 billion in mining investment over the next five years. The relevant efforts will involve selecting projects with viable conditions for advancement from the existing mining project portfolio, and accelerating project implementation by adjusting approval procedures and shortening processing timelines.

Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines' 2026 mining investment project portfolio includes 66 projects distributed across 19 regions nationwide, with a projected total investment of $64.075 billion. Compared to the October 2025 updated version, the portfolio's investment value has grown by 1.7%. Shinno previously stated that the government will communicate with project companies one by one, and some projects are expected to make substantial progress or enter the operational phase within the next five years.

As of the first five months of 2026, Peru has executed mining investments exceeding $2.633 billion, a year-on-year increase of 43.6%. Among these, infrastructure investment totaled $713 million, up 80.2% year-on-year; beneficiation plant investment reached $387 million, up 16.7% year-on-year. Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines previously projected that total mining investment for 2026 would be approximately $6.3 billion.

In terms of project approval, Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines is reviewing existing administrative procedures, planning to simplify certain processes and shorten project processing times. For small-scale mining and artisanal mining, the ministry is developing new legislative proposals that would adopt approval and management requirements distinct from those for large-scale mines, while maintaining safety and environmental protection conditions. The government is also studying mining royalty and mining tax distribution mechanisms, as well as control measures targeting the supply of raw materials for illegal mining and the sale of mining products.
