Scania Secures Order for 220 Natural Gas Trucks from Brazil's Reiter Log

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Scania and Brazilian transport company Reiter Log have jointly announced a record-breaking purchase order: Reiter Log will acquire 220 trucks powered by natural gas and/or biomethane. These vehicles are expected to be delivered by December this year and will join Reiter Log's current fleet of nearly 300 natural gas/biomethane trucks.

The order comprises three models: 60 units of the R 420 4x2 with 420 hp; 70 units of the R 460 6x4; and 90 units of the R 460 6x2, with the latter two models both delivering 460 hp.

Silvio Renan, Scania's new Director of Solutions Sales, noted that since 2019, Scania has sold 2,750 vehicles powered by natural gas/biomethane technology in Brazil.

This week, the transport company from Rio Grande do Sul will also put into operation Scania's first electric tractor unit in Brazil. The vehicle was purchased during the Fenatran 2024 exhibition and marks another step in the company's decarbonization process; Reiter Log plans to have 100% of its fleet running on alternative energy by 2035.

The electric tractor model is the 30 G 4x2, part of the third-generation electric version, equipped with two NMC (lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery packs, delivering 300 kW (410 hp) of power and 1,150 Nm of torque, with a maximum towing capacity (CMT) of 66 tons. Designed for short-haul operations such as distribution and hub-to-hub routes, the vehicle offers a range of approximately 250 kilometers.

The introduction of the electric vehicle comes as Reiter Log expands its decarbonization strategy, reinforcing the company's commitment to adopting different low-emission logistics solutions. The company combines its growing natural gas/biomethane fleet with hybrid and electric vehicles, while investing in refueling infrastructure, telematics, and emissions monitoring.
