Purina Officially Opens Pet Food Factory in the U.S. with Over $550 Million Investment

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 31, Nestlé Purina PetCare officially opened its new pet food factory in Batavia, Ohio, U.S., with a cumulative investment exceeding $550 million. The factory covers a building area of approximately 1.3 million square feet and is currently producing dry cat and dog food products such as Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE, and Dog Chow. It currently employs more than 430 people, with plans to increase the workforce to over 500 once fully operational.

This factory is Purina's first completely new facility built from the ground up since 1975 and is the company's 24th production plant operating in the United States. As of this opening, the project represents Nestlé's largest investment in Purina production facilities. The factory's designed annual supply capacity can meet the food needs of approximately 8 million pets.

The production facility employs digital manufacturing systems, robotics, and automated equipment, and is equipped with an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS). The main building of the plant exceeds 10 stories and also houses a food safety system and a Manufacturing Experience Center.

Purina first announced the project plan in October 2020, with an initial investment of $550 million to build a production facility of approximately 1.2 million square feet in Williamsburg Township, along with plans for 300 jobs. At the time of this official opening, the factory's actual building area has increased to approximately 1.3 million square feet, with more than 430 employees on site.
