en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, German Rheinmetall Group announced that it had jointly won the bid for the Mangalia Shipyard in Romania with Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) at a purchase price of approximately EUR 138 million, to be paid jointly by both parties, with the transaction expected to be completed in the coming weeks. The shipyard is located south of Constanța on Romania's Black Sea coast, and the two companies plan to transform it into a production base capable of both civilian and military shipbuilding.

Under the post-acquisition operational plan, the Mangalia Shipyard will be divided into separate production areas and security-controlled areas, undertaking commercial vessel and military warship construction tasks respectively, and conducting shipbuilding operations for both the Romanian domestic and international markets. Rheinmetall's Naval Systems division plans to carry out a comprehensive upgrade of the shipyard's existing infrastructure, improve shipbuilding conditions, and adjust production capacity according to the requirements of subsequent projects.

Rheinmetall stated that the Mangalia Shipyard will participate in the construction of four vessels already ordered by the Romanian government, including two 96-meter offshore patrol vessels and two 43-meter diving support vessels. The shipyard will also undertake manufacturing tasks for Rheinmetall's subsequent ship projects in the Southeastern Europe region.

The Mangalia Shipyard covers an area of approximately 1 million square meters and has three dry docks, having long been engaged in commercial shipbuilding and repair operations. Rheinmetall and Mediterranean Shipping Company announced their joint acquisition intention in May 2026 and obtained the shipyard auction bidding result in October, with the acquisition process advancing from preliminary negotiations to the winning bid stage.
