en.Wedoany.com Reported - The federal government of Canada is advancing a batch of national-level major investment projects through the Major Projects Office (MPO). The projects referred so far represent approximately CAD 116 billion in capital investment, including 5 mining projects, 3 power projects, 2 energy projects, and 1 port project. Mining has become one of the largest single categories in the current project pipeline, involving critical minerals such as nickel, graphite, and tungsten-molybdenum.

This batch of mining projects includes Canada Nickel Company's Crawford Nickel Project, Nouveau Monde Graphite's Matawinie Graphite Project, and Northcliff Resources' Sisson Tungsten-Molybdenum Project, among others. The Crawford Project is expected to attract approximately CAD 5 billion in investment, while the Matawinie Graphite Mine and Integrated Materials Project is expected to attract approximately CAD 1.8 billion in investment. The relevant projects are currently at the permitting, financing, engineering preparation, and development advancement stages, respectively.

The Crawford Nickel Project obtained a federal impact assessment decision in July 2026, and the project will continue to advance provincial and federal permitting and construction preparation. The project is located in the Timmins area of Ontario and is planned to develop large-scale nickel sulfide resources, supported by mineral processing and related infrastructure.

The Canadian government is also continuing to increase funding support in the critical minerals sector. In March 2026, the federal government announced more than CAD 3.6 billion in new programs and investments, including the CAD 1.5 billion First and Last Mile Fund, and announced CAD 165.2 million to support 22 projects, leveraging approximately CAD 434 million in project capital. In July, Canada also launched the Canada Critical Minerals Accelerator, covering critical minerals projects from mine development to processing.

The Canadian government has proposed to drive approximately CAD 500 billion in private investment over the next five years through the Major Projects Office, ultimately forming a nationwide investment scale of approximately CAD 1 trillion. This target covers multiple sectors including mining, energy, power, and transportation, and is not the investment amount for the mining industry alone.
