Boeing Completes O3b mPOWER Constellation Deployment
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 13, the last three O3b mPOWER satellites built by Boeing for SES—F11, F12 and F13—lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida and successfully entered orbit, subsequently joining the 10 satellites already in orbit. With this, the 13-satellite O3b mPOWER constellation has completed deployment.

The primary mission of the O3b mPOWER constellation is to enhance connectivity for mobile users, government agencies and other customers worldwide. With the constellation completed, SES is able to expand the reach of high-speed connectivity and strengthen digital services to meet continuously growing bandwidth demand. Active customers currently using the constellation's network capabilities include cruise lines, government agencies, civil entities, mobile operators and commercial airlines.
SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh said the launch is a defining milestone for SES, as the company has completed the O3b mPOWER constellation and further strengthened its medium Earth orbit (MEO) capabilities. More importantly, he said, it consolidates SES's ability to deliver resilient, secure and scalable connectivity to customers worldwide, helping governments, enterprises, cloud service providers and mobility customers meet their most critical needs; as customer demands continue to evolve, SES is committed to building smarter, more integrated solutions that combine the advantages of multiple technologies and orbits to deliver seamless connectivity globally.
These satellites carry Boeing's software-defined payload technology, which can dynamically allocate bandwidth, concentrate beam power and adjust capacity in real time to match changing connectivity needs. The system is designed for bandwidth-constrained regions and can be used to help students in remote communities get online to complete their coursework, as well as to support doctors in small villages in improving telemedicine services.

In addition, O3b mPOWER serves as the technical baseline for defensive systems that Boeing's satellite team continues to develop for national security customers. The company is applying a hardened version of this space-proven software-defined payload architecture to the U.S. Space Force's Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system and Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS) system.
By combining the high-performance payload of O3b mPOWER with the standardized, scalable 702X platform, Boeing has created a dual-use satellite architecture that can be built and integrated quickly and consistently across different orbits. Reid said the successful orbit insertion of the first O3b mPOWER satellites means the on-orbit performance baseline for standardized 702X technology has been formally established; customers thereby gain schedule confidence and reliability from a mature production line, minimizing risk while rapidly scaling critical capabilities for the joint force.
After completing orbit-raising and initialization activities, F11, F12 and F13 are expected to enter service in mid-2027.
