Germany's EnviTec Advances 3 Biomethane Projects, with the Largest Single Site at 475 Nm³/h

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 16, Germany's EnviTec Biogas announced the latest progress on three biomethane projects. The projects are located in Priborn, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; Friesoythe, Lower Saxony; and Delbrück, North Rhine-Westphalia, and all focus on upgrading existing biogas facilities into biomethane production plants. Among them, the Priborn project began purifying biogas into biomethane in July, while the Friesoythe and Delbrück projects continue to advance equipment installation and preparations for first grid connection.

The Priborn project is operated by EnviTec itself. The original biogas plant has been in operation since 2004, with an original power generation capacity of 550 kWel. This time, an EnviThan gas upgrading unit with a processing capacity of 475 Nm³/h was added. Supporting modifications also include a PreMix mixing system, a push-floor system, a technical building, an oxygen generator, 3 digestate storage tanks and 2 loading points, a pump room, a separation unit, and a new emergency flare. After the project upgrade is completed, the original biogas facility, which mainly focused on power generation, gains additional biomethane production capacity.

The Friesoythe project involves upgrading an agricultural biogas facility that has been in operation for 22 years. The plant was originally a 370 kW co-fermentation project, and the relevant subsidy under Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act expired on January 1, 2025. EnviTec will add an EnviThan upgrading system to the existing facility, with a first-phase raw gas processing capacity of 500 Nm³/h, which can later be expanded to 600 Nm³/h. The biomethane produced is planned to be injected into EWE's local natural gas network, and the feedstock mainly includes energy crops, liquid manure, and solid manure.

The Delbrück project is equipped with a 200 Nm³/h biomethane upgrading unit, using 4-inch and 6-inch membrane modules, and is integrated into a 45-foot container connected to the existing biogas facility. EnviTec disclosed that the project has entered the preparation stage for first gas injection. The relevant EnviThan container is scheduled to arrive on site in the second week of September, and the first injection of biomethane into the natural gas network is planned for November.

All three projects use EnviTec's EnviThan membrane separation upgrading route to separate methane from carbon dioxide and other components in existing biogas, enabling the product gas to meet natural gas network requirements. The project implementation path mainly includes upgrading existing biogas facilities, installing gas upgrading systems, upgrading auxiliary equipment, and building grid injection interfaces, without involving the construction of a complete new biogas production system.

EnviTec currently undertakes the design, construction, commissioning, and subsequent technical services of biogas and biomethane facilities, and operates 91 of its own facilities. In 2025, the company achieved revenue of EUR 312.6 million and profit before tax of EUR 26 million, with business covering 18 countries.
