Taiwan Plans to Restart Ma'anshan Nuclear Power Plant to Cut LNG Imports
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has officially submitted an application to restart the Ma'anshan Nuclear Power Plant, and the relevant regulatory authorities are currently reviewing the application.
In terms of installed capacity, the two reactors at the Ma'anshan Nuclear Power Plant have a combined installed capacity of 1.9 GW, while the two reactors at the Guosheng Nuclear Power Plant have an additional 1.97 GW. If this nearly 3.9 GW of nuclear power capacity can be successfully restored, it is expected to replace 4 million to 4.5 million tons of imported LNG annually.
Regarding the specific timetable, Unit 2 of the Ma'anshan Nuclear Power Plant is expected to resume operation as early as 2027, at which point it could replace approximately 1 million tons of LNG per year; the other reactor at Ma'anshan is expected to restart as early as 2028. As for the Guosheng Nuclear Power Plant, because spent fuel must first be removed and sufficient storage capacity ensured before maintenance and safety inspections can be carried out, its restart is expected to take place no earlier than 2031.
