US-based Anthropic Upgrades Claude Code Projects to Support Multi-Agent Parallel Collaboration

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 17, US artificial intelligence company Anthropic announced a redesign of the Projects feature in Claude Code, upgrading it from a traditional project folder to a task coordination system designed for multi-agent collaboration. Users only need to describe the overall goal within a project, and Claude can automatically break down tasks, assign work, coordinate multiple parallel threads, check outputs, and summarize the final results. The feature is currently in Beta testing within Claude Code.

The new version of Projects executes tasks in parallel across multiple independent "threads," with each thread corresponding to a separate Claude Code cloud session and working on a different code repository branch. The system manages task allocation and progress through a central coordinator, allowing users to either enter a single thread directly to adjust work or view the overall execution status through a project-level conversation interface.

In software development scenarios, users can submit larger goals to Projects at once, such as reducing latency in an application's checkout process, simultaneously modifying API, web, and mobile code, or cleaning up legacy interfaces. Claude then further breaks down the tasks across multiple parallel threads, each performing work such as performance analysis, code modification, testing, and submitting merge requests. When conflicts arise between threads, they are still handled through the standard code merge process.

The new version of Projects also allows threads to further invoke sub-agents, loop tasks, and automated workflows, enabling a single project to form a multi-layered task structure of "project—thread—sub-agent." All threads currently run in the cloud, and Anthropic said support for local tools and local code environments will be added in the future.

Projects is currently available in Beta testing for select Claude Pro and Max users, with plans to expand to Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise, Cowork, and standard Claude users in the future.
