GE Vernova Secures Rotor Life Extension Service Agreements for 5 9F Gas Turbines in Egypt

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 23, GE Vernova announced the signing of service agreements with Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company (UEEPC), Middle Delta Electricity Production Company (MDEPC), and Cairo Electricity Production Company (CEPC), all subsidiaries of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), to provide Rotor Life Extension (RLE) services for five GE Vernova 9F gas turbines at the Kureimat, Nubaria, and Cairo North power plants. The five units have a combined installed capacity of approximately 1,250 MW. The related services are scheduled to be implemented between 2028 and 2035, with the goal of extending the operating life of the equipment by 13 to 15 years.

The service targets gas turbine rotors. GE Vernova stated that the rotor is one of the core components of a power plant and requires planned maintenance in accordance with the equipment lifecycle. This RLE service will assess the remaining life of the relevant components and carry out rotor lifecycle extension work accordingly. The agreements are endorsed by EEHC, with each of the three subsidiary generation companies corresponding to the relevant plant assets. GE Vernova did not disclose the contract value or the specific implementation batches for the five units.

This agreement forms a continuous timeline with another gas turbine upgrade order GE Vernova secured in Egypt this year. On April 29, GE Vernova announced an order from MDEPC to modernize the Banha and Nubaria power plants. Under this order, two 9F gas turbines at the Banha plant will receive the Advanced Gas Path upgrade, with the project expected to take three years; Banha and Nubaria simultaneously signed multi-year service agreements of 15 years and 8 years, respectively. The Banha gas turbine upgrade is expected to increase unit output and improve efficiency by approximately 2%.

As a result, Nubaria is simultaneously covered by two types of equipment service arrangements: the April order covers long-term services, while the September agreement further incorporates 9F gas turbine rotor life extension. The two orders have different technical scopes—the former focuses on the Advanced Gas Path upgrade and long-term operations and maintenance, while the latter focuses on rotor remaining life assessment and life extension.GE Vernova

GE Vernova disclosed that gas combined cycle units currently account for approximately 80% of Egypt's power generation. The company's existing installed base in Egypt includes more than 60 gas turbines and steam turbines, with a combined generating capacity of approximately 10 GW. The RLE services for the Kureimat, Nubaria, and Cairo North power plants will be incorporated into GE Vernova's existing full lifecycle service system for gas turbine assets in Egypt.
