First Ship Trial Berthing at the West Zone 1 of the Container Terminal in the North Working Area of Xiaoyangshan, China, Succeeds, with Official Operation Planned for the End of the Year

en.Wedoany.com Reported - At 12:40 on September 26, as the last mooring line of the container transport ship "Ji Hai Zhi Xing" was properly secured and all berthing procedures were completed, the first ship trial berthing operation at the West Zone 1 of the container terminal in the North Working Area of Xiaoyangshan achieved complete success, with official operation planned for the end of this year. Under the comprehensive safety guarantee of remote electronic monitoring and on-site command by the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration, the entire trial berthing process was safe and orderly, marking a breakthrough in the core supporting facilities of the North Working Area of Xiaoyangshan and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent main construction of the terminal and the overall operation of the port area.

The container terminal and supporting project in the North Working Area of Xiaoyangshan is one of the 102 major projects of the national "14th Five-Year Plan" and a landmark project for Shanghai and Zhejiang to deepen regional coordination and jointly build a world-class shipping hub. The overall project plans 6,100 meters of terminal shoreline and 22 container berths, including 7 berths of 70,000-ton class and 15 berths of 20,000-ton class. After upgrading, it can accommodate ultra-large container ships for berthing operations. Upon full completion, the designed annual container throughput capacity will be 11.6 million TEUs.

This ship trial berthing operation is a key navigational verification step before the official commissioning of the terminal. The operating waters have dense shorelines and a complex navigational environment, and are year-round challenged by severe weather such as heavy fog, strong winds, and typhoons, making the safety guarantee for trial berthing highly demanding and difficult.

To ensure the safe and orderly conduct of this trial berthing operation, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration intervened in advance and provided proactive services, building a full-chain safety guarantee system featuring pre-event simulation, in-process supervision, and post-event review. Before the trial berthing, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration took the lead in jointly conducting a special tabletop exercise with Shanghai International Port Group and the trial berthing vessel party, and locked in the optimal time window for actual ship berthing based on refined meteorological and hydrological data. During the implementation of the trial berthing, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration designated a warning water area, broadcast VHF safety notices, dispatched the vessel "Hai Xun 0108" to carry out channel clearance and on-site escort, and kept emergency forces on duty throughout the process, achieving coordinated efforts between remote intelligent control and on-site escort. After the trial berthing, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration will organize multiple parties to conduct a review and evaluation, draw on the captain's practical experience, and continuously improve the safety management and control mechanism for subsequent vessel entry and exit, berthing and unberthing in the port area.

In addition to completing this trial berthing operation, the "Ji Hai Zhi Xing" that entered the port this time will continue to berth at the North Working Area of Xiaoyangshan for a period of time to cooperate in conducting tests on various aspects including terminal bridge cranes, rail-mounted gantry cranes, and container yards. At present, all 5 bridge cranes for the terminal shoreline planned for trial operation have been put in place, 9 rail-mounted gantry cranes are being commissioned in the factory area, and another 11 rail-mounted gantry cranes will be put in place successively.
