Track Laying Completed on the Entire Chabahar–Zahedan Railway in Iran

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 24, track laying was completed on the Chabahar–Zahedan Railway in Iran, and the project began transitioning to the operational preparation stage. The main line of the railway is approximately 630 kilometers long, with a total length of about 735 kilometers including branch lines; the Iranian side has completed track laying on the Chabahar–Iranshahr section and the related tracks in the Chabahar port area, and is advancing safety inspections of the line and pre-commissioning technical preparations.

Once completed, the line will connect Chabahar Port, Iran's only deep-water port, to the national railway network. The project includes a total of 33 stations, 39 tunnels with a total length of approximately 17 kilometers, as well as 201 crossing works and major bridges, and about 2,000 culverts; the entire line is planned to use approximately 90,000 tons of Iranian domestically produced steel rails.

According to the design capacity announced by the Iranian side, the Chabahar–Zahedan Railway will have an annual passenger capacity of approximately 2.2 million and an annual freight capacity of approximately 7.7 million tons. The Zahedan end had previously been connected to Iran's national railway system via existing railways, among which the Zahedan–Khash section has already been put into operation, and the completion of track laying this time has filled in the key section toward Chabahar.

The government of Sistan and Baluchestan Province in Iran has now formulated follow-up plans for the commissioning of the project, and the transportation and urban development authorities are completing safety standards and technical inspections. Public information shows that the official operation of the entire line is expected to require approximately another 3 to 4 months, and it is currently still in the pre-commissioning preparation stage.

The project is located in southeastern Iran, connecting Zahedan at its northern end and extending directly to Chabahar Port at its southern end. After the railway is put into operation, railway cargo from Iran's inland areas and the surrounding Central Asian direction can enter the Chabahar port area via Zahedan, forming a transport corridor with direct rail-to-port connectivity.
