Selenis Acquires Greek Copolyester Assets, Capacity to Exceed 200,000 Tons

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Specialty polyester materials producer Selenis has acquired the production assets of Greece-based Polisan Hellas and plans to relocate the related equipment to its Portugal site for installation. With the integration of these assets completed, Selenis expects to establish more than 200,000 tons/year of installed specialty copolyester capacity across its production sites in Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, and the United States by 2028. The core of this transaction is the acquisition of production assets, not the acquisition of Polisan Hellas as a whole.

The newly added assets will introduce continuous polymerization production capability to Selenis. The company's existing production system mainly offers batch production advantages, enabling flexible production of small-batch, customized specialty materials; continuous polymerization units are better suited for large-volume products with a higher degree of standardization, reducing conversion costs per unit. After asset integration, Selenis will operate both continuous polymerization and batch polymerization production systems, covering large-scale standard grades and high-value-added customized grades.

According to the plan, the continuous polymerization equipment obtained from Greece will be installed at Selenis' Portugal production site and incorporated into the capacity expansion project currently underway there. The new capacity will primarily serve markets including shrink sleeves, films and sheets, medical materials, 3D printing filaments, and chemical recycling of textiles. Among these, large-volume standard grades for shrink films, films, and sheets will increasingly adopt continuous polymerization production to improve product consistency and large-scale manufacturing efficiency.

Selenis also plans to enhance its specialty copolyester supply capability through multi-site production. The same material grade can be customer-qualified at multiple production sites in the future, allowing European customers to be supplied more from European plants and North American customers from the U.S. site. The company is currently advancing a capacity doubling plan in Portugal, while also evaluating a bio-based materials project in Germany and investments related to chemical recycling of textiles in Tunisia.

Selenis' specialty copolyester products cover material systems including PETG and PCTG, primarily serving packaging, medical, additive manufacturing, and recycled materials sectors. With the addition of the continuous polymerization assets, the company will further expand its large-scale production capacity for standard copolyesters, complementing its existing batch production lines for specialty materials.
