en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Australian exploration company FMR Resources commenced first drilling at the La Lorena copper-gold project in Chile, with no less than 2,000 meters of diamond drilling at the La Martuca target. The program is planned to run for 10–12 weeks, with initial assay results expected within 6–8 weeks after completion of the first drill hole. This drilling represents the first use of modern drilling methods to verify subsurface mineralization at the La Lorena project.

The first round of drilling mainly tests mineralized structures beneath and along strike extensions of the historical small-scale mining area at La Martuca, while also verifying the induced polarization chargeability anomalies and magnetic anomalies identified by the 3D model. Previous IP surveys had identified two main sulfide targets at La Martuca, one beneath the historical mining area and the other approximately 550 meters to its northeast.

FMR previously conducted underground and surface rock chip sampling at La Martuca, obtaining results of up to 5.32% copper; earlier project data also indicate the presence of quartz-sulfide veins and breccia-related primary and oxidized copper mineralization at La Martuca. The company subsequently completed drone magnetic surveys and IP surveys, using geological, geochemical, and geophysical data for the design of this round of drilling.

La Lorena is located approximately 380 kilometers east of Combarbalá in central Chile, with a project area of approximately 11 kilometers × 8 kilometers, including targets such as La Martuca, Esperanza, and Los Morados. The project area hosts Eocene volcanic and intrusive rocks. FMR currently holds an exclusive option over the La Martuca and Esperanza areas, an exclusivity agreement over Los Morados and surrounding areas, and adjacent exploration mining claims.

La Lorena entered FMR's project portfolio in May 2026. After completing the first round of surface exploration, the company conducted drone magnetic surveys in June, identifying a magnetic anomaly combination approximately 1.3 kilometers wide and 2.8 kilometers long at La Martuca; in July, IP surveys further delineated subsurface chargeability anomalies, and this round of drilling will directly test these targets.

After completing the first round of drilling at La Martuca, FMR plans to integrate drill hole, geophysical, and geochemical data, and continue evaluating the Esperanza target to further define other drilling targets at La Lorena.
