en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Greenlandic government has formally approved the mining plan and closure plan for the Tanbreez rare earth project. The approval documents apply to Critical Metals Corp.'s subsidiary Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S and are valid until September 8, 2050. The two plans respectively cover mine construction, mining, ore processing and supporting infrastructure operations, as well as closure and site rehabilitation arrangements after the mine ceases operation. Critical Metals announced the approval results on October 5.

This approval was granted under Articles 77 and 80 of Greenland's Mineral Resources Act and implemented under the project's existing MIN 2020-54 mining license. The 19 elements approved for extraction include zirconium, hafnium, tantalum, niobium, and lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, and yttrium, covering magnet rare earth elements such as praseodymium, neodymium, terbium, and dysprosium.

The Tanbreez project is located between Narsaq and Qaqortoq in southern Greenland, with the existing mining license covering an area of 18 square kilometers. The project's mining license has an initial mining scale of 500,000 tonnes per year. The mining area is close to a deep-water fjord, allowing mineral products to be shipped out by sea. Critical Metals currently holds a 92.5% interest in Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S, with European Lithium holding the remaining 7.5%.

At the current stage, the project still needs to obtain specific operating permits under Articles 120 and 121 of the Mineral Resources Act. These permits relate to specific activities including environmental management, marine transport, health and safety, and export and sale of mineral products. Only after obtaining the above specific permits can the project proceed with the corresponding construction and operational activities in accordance with the approved mining plan.

Critical Metals has commissioned Danish engineering consultancy NIRAS to update the project's definitive feasibility study, which is being conducted at a mining and processing scale of 500,000 tonnes per year. The company's technical report completed in April 2026 shows that the project's existing mineral resources are classified as indicated resources and inferred resources under the S-K 1300 standard. The project has previously completed drilling, resource model updates, and beneficiation tests, and is currently continuing to advance development engineering and permitting work.
