en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, China Railway Nanning Group announced that the container transport volume of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor rail-sea intermodal trains has exceeded 1 million TEUs in 2026. A total of 120,000 TEUs were transported on the Chongqing–Guangxi Qinzhou Port route, up 31.7% year on year, with outbound shipments of industrial products such as auto parts, construction machinery, and tires increasing by 95%; reverse-direction transport of industrial raw materials reached 53,000 TEUs, up 28.7% year on year, while shipments of industrial and mining raw materials including quartz sand, spodumene, and zinc concentrate nearly tripled year on year.

In September, due to the suspension of the Three Gorges ship lift on the Yangtze River for maintenance, some river-sea intermodal cargo was diverted to the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. Train volumes on the two routes — Chongqing Xiaonanya to Qinzhou Port East and Qinzhou Port East to Chongqing Xiaonanya — increased by 119.5% and 106.9% year on year, respectively. China Railway Nanning Group, together with the Qinzhou Railway Container Center Station, Qinzhou Beigang Supply Chain Co., Ltd., and short-distance drayage fleets, coordinated cargo arrival and departure, container source return, loading and unloading progress, and capacity allocation, and prepared loading plans based on container return conditions.

Railway infrastructure construction along the corridor is also advancing. The double-tracking project of the Nanning–Fangchenggang Railway Qinzhou–Fangchenggang section and the double-tracking project of the Qinzhou East–Qinzhou Port Railway have entered the final stage, with the related projects scheduled to be completed and put into operation successively between 2026 and the first half of 2027. The two projects respectively involve capacity expansion of the Guangxi coastal railway transport corridor and the Qinzhou Port railway collection and distribution facilities.

After China Railway's 2026 fourth-quarter operating schedule adjustment, the number of scheduled train routes on the New Western Land-Sea Corridor increased to 54, with 2 new fixed train routes added, further expanding the transport network's coverage of freight connections between Guangxi and the Sichuan-Chongqing region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, and border ports between China and Vietnam.
