GLS Group to Build 5,000-Square-Meter Fulfillment Center in Kolding, Denmark, Operational in 2027

Construction has officially begun on the facility, which will have an initial fulfillment operation area of 5,000 square meters, expandable to 15,000 square meters in the future, plus a 550-square-meter administrative office area. The center is scheduled to be operational before the 2027 logistics peak season and is expected to create approximately 30 new jobs. This is also the first time GLS has established a fulfillment facility in Denmark that integrates warehousing, order processing, and parcel delivery.

The new center is located at Trianglen 15 in Kolding, approximately 2 kilometers from GLS Denmark's existing parcel sorting hub. Once completed, the project will connect to the company's existing nationwide parcel delivery network in Denmark, providing e-commerce customers with inventory storage, order picking, product packaging, and last-mile delivery services. The facility primarily targets small and medium-sized e-commerce businesses, allowing goods to be warehoused and orders dispatched within the same logistics network.

The new facility is planned to be equipped with an AutoStore automated storage system and automated sorting conveyor belts, adopting a semi-automated warehousing operation model. The AutoStore system will handle dense storage and retrieval of goods, while the automated sorting equipment will be responsible for conveying and diverting order items. Manual picking, packaging, and other operational processes will also be retained within the warehouse. GLS has not yet disclosed the number of AutoStore robots, the number of bins, the sorting equipment's throughput rate, or the contract value of the system supply.

GLS plans to gradually expand the center's operational scale based on order volumes from Danish e-commerce customers. Once operational, the new center will work in coordination with the existing parcel hub for inventory management, order fulfillment, and delivery operations. Previously, GLS has established order fulfillment facilities in Germany, Hungary, Spain, Slovenia, and Canada. The Kolding project will bring Denmark into its fulfillment service network.
