en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 7, Benin's Council of Ministers approved the implementation of a three-section road rehabilitation and reconstruction project with a total length of approximately 89.23 kilometers, covering the 17-kilometer Ouidah–Tori road, the 37-kilometer Djougou–Ouaké road to the Togo border, and the first lot of the 35.233-kilometer Bohicon–Dassa-Zoumè road. Among these, the third road section will be reconstructed to a two-way four-lane standard. The government has authorized the advancement of updated engineering studies, construction, and supervision work, and has required the competent authorities to finalize the relevant construction contracts.

Both the Ouidah–Tori road and the Djougou–Ouaké road to the Togo border are important transport arteries in Benin. According to the government's published project assessment, both roads have suffered severe structural fatigue and pavement damage and can no longer be restored to normal service conditions through routine maintenance. The rehabilitation will adopt a full pavement reconstruction approach, simultaneously carrying out road structure reinforcement, drainage system improvement, hydraulic structure repair, and slope protection works. The design studies for both roads will be updated according to actual road conditions, with quality supervision and engineering supervision carried out in parallel during the construction phase.

The first lot of the Bohicon–Dassa-Zoumè road starts at the Zakpo intersection and ends at Sêto, and is planned to be rebuilt as a two-way four-lane road. This lot connects with the second lot of the Sêto–Dassa-Zoumè road, which has already commenced construction. The Council of Ministers included the first lot in the approved project scope and required the competent authorities to proceed with the signing of the corresponding construction contracts and project implementation. The second lot has already started construction, but the first lot has not yet been confirmed for formal mobilization.

The approved scope includes structural rehabilitation of two existing roads and capacity expansion and reconstruction of another road. The Beninese government has required the competent authorities to complete the project contract procedures and to be responsible for subsequent construction execution and supervision.
