Two Mining Licenses at Ghana's Asanko Gold Mine Extended to 2041 and 2043

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, Canadian mining company Galiano Gold obtained approval for the extension of two mining leases at the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana. The Abirem mining lease was extended by 15 years, valid until 2041; the Miradani mining lease was extended by 17 years, valid until 2043. The two leases cover the Nkran, Adubiaso, and Miradani North gold deposits, as well as the processing facility with an annual throughput capacity of 5.8 million tonnes and related infrastructure.

The Abirem mining lease approved for extension covers the Nkran and Adubiaso deposits and includes the Nkran Cut 3 open-pit mining project under the mine's long-term development plan. The Miradani mining lease relates to the Miradani North deposit. Ghana's Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources participated in the relevant extension approval process.

The Asanko Gold Mine is located in the Asankrangwa Gold Belt in Ghana and is operated by Galiano Gold. The mining area comprises four main open-pit areas—Abore, Nkran, Esaase, and Miradani North—as well as several satellite deposits. The existing processing plant uses a carbon-in-leach process, and the mine entered commercial production in April 2016.

According to the mine operation data published by Galiano Gold, the Asanko Gold Mine produced 121,191 ounces of gold in 2025. The company's gold production guidance for 2026 is 140,000 to 160,000 ounces, with all-in sustaining costs expected to be US$2,000 to US$2,300 per ounce.

The mineral resource update previously published by Galiano Gold also addresses the underground mining potential of the Nkran and Abore deposits. The two deposits' first-time combined underground indicated mineral resources total 3.4 million tonnes at an average gold grade of 2.74 g/t, containing approximately 300,000 ounces of gold; inferred mineral resources total 6.5 million tonnes at an average gold grade of 2.52 g/t, containing approximately 530,000 ounces of gold. The company plans to continue evaluating options for integrating underground mining with existing open-pit operations.
