en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 9, Australian energy engineering company Enerven announced that it has been awarded the engineering contract for the Teebar battery energy storage project by Atmos Renewables, with energy storage technology provided by Valo. The project is located in the Fraser Coast region of Queensland, Australia, with a planned power capacity of 400MW and an energy storage capacity of 1600MWh, providing 4 hours of continuous discharge. Enerven will undertake civil construction, energy storage system integration, and 275kV grid connection works, with site mobilization planned for October 2026 and commercial operation targeted for the end of 2028.

The Teebar project is located approximately 60 kilometers west of Maryborough, adjacent to the Teebar Creek substation operated by Powerlink. The works will include the construction of a new 275/33kV step-up substation and approximately 300 meters of 275kV overhead transmission line, connecting to the Powerlink grid. Enerven is responsible for project design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, specifically covering site grading, earthworks excavation, drainage, road upgrades, equipment foundations, temporary construction facilities, and electrical infrastructure installation.

The project developer Atmos Renewables is backed by Igneo Infrastructure Partners and is responsible for project investment and development, and will continue to hold the relevant assets during construction and after commissioning. Atmos holds interests in over 1.9GW of operating and under-construction wind, solar, and energy storage assets in Australia, including over 400MW of renewable energy generation assets already in operation in Queensland. Teebar will become the company's first battery energy storage station in the Australian National Electricity Market and its first project to be directly advanced for construction in Queensland.

Enerven was established in 2018 and is part of SA Power Networks Group, with business covering high-voltage transmission and transformation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, and grid connection engineering. The company has previously participated in the 330/33kV substation works for the Liddell energy storage project, the grid connection facilities for the Eraring energy storage project, and the 132kV line and switchgear construction for the Tomago energy storage project. Teebar is Enerven's first large-scale energy storage project in Queensland and its first collaboration with Atmos Renewables.

Energy storage equipment supplier Valo was jointly established by Finland's Wärtsilä and German engineering company RCT Solutions, each holding a 50% stake, with the joint venture transaction completed on October 1. Valo has taken over Wärtsilä's original global energy storage system integration business, adopting the GridSolve Quantum2 energy storage product and GEMS energy management software. Wärtsilä's former energy storage business achieved €694 million in revenue in 2025, with approximately 450 employees worldwide.

The energy storage business portfolio inherited by Valo at its establishment covers more than 130 utility-scale projects globally, with a total scale exceeding 20GWh. The Teebar project will adopt the GridSolve Quantum2 battery energy storage system and GEMS energy management and power plant control software. Valo will also provide long-term technical services for the project to support the operational performance and reliability of the energy storage system and compliance requirements related to Australia's Capacity Investment Scheme. This contract expands Valo's energy storage project portfolio in Australia to more than 7.6GWh.

Teebar has obtained the Generator Performance Standards (GPS) approval required for grid-forming operation in the Australian National Electricity Market. The GEMS control system used in the project will work with the battery energy storage equipment to carry out power plant power control. The energy storage system is connected to the existing grid through the 275/33kV substation and approximately 300 meters of transmission line.

Prior to formally signing the engineering contract, Enerven had engaged in approximately 9 months of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) collaboration with Atmos Renewables, Valo, and Powerlink, participating in project engineering design, grid connection solutions, construction organization, and cost arrangements. Enerven entered the early contractor involvement phase in December 2025 and subsequently obtained the formal engineering contract. During project construction, local supplier procurement and local workforce recruitment are also planned.

Atmos Renewables and its parent company Igneo Infrastructure Partners announced on October 2 that the Teebar energy storage project and the 470MW Parron Maam Marang wind project in Western Australia have achieved financial close. Both projects have received support from the Australian Government's Capacity Investment Scheme. Together with the 100MW/400MWh Merredin energy storage project that achieved financial close in June 2025, Atmos has advanced a total of 970MW of CIS-supported projects to financial close.
