China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Consortium Selected for Approximately US$2.7 Billion Dubai Airport Underground Structure Works
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects selected a consortium formed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Tristar Engineering & Construction to undertake the underground structure works for the West Terminal of Al Maktoum International Airport in the UAE, with a contract value estimated at approximately AED 10 billion (approximately US$2.7 billion). This project is part of the airport's expansion plan with a total investment of approximately US$35 billion, and the scope of work covers the terminal foundation, underground structures, and related supporting facilities.

The West Terminal is planned to have a total gross floor area of approximately 800,000 square meters, with 7 floors, and a designed annual passenger throughput of 45 million passengers. The underground structure works constitute a separate construction contract package for the terminal, covering the main building foundation and underground space structures. The West Terminal is also planned to be connected to other airside facilities of the airport via an automated people mover system, with the related rail transit facilities included in the overall airport construction scope.
Phase 1 of the Al Maktoum International Airport expansion also includes Concourse 1, supporting runways, taxiways, an underground baggage handling system, and energy and ground transportation facilities. Among these, Concourse 1 is planned to be equipped with approximately 100 contact stands, and the airport's superstructure, underground structures, passenger transit system, and baggage handling system are being advanced through separate engineering contracts.
On March 31, 2026, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects received bids for three superstructure construction contract packages for Phase 1 of the airport, covering the West Terminal and different concourse buildings respectively. The airport's automated people mover system had previously been awarded to a consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation and Larsen & Toubro, with a related contract value estimated at approximately US$1.5 billion, and the first phase of construction includes 4 underground stations.
Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects plans to award airport construction contracts worth more than AED 55 billion in 2026, covering terminals, concourses, underground transportation systems, baggage handling facilities, and airfield infrastructure. The airport's long-term plan targets an annual passenger throughput capacity of more than 260 million passengers and an annual air cargo handling capacity of 12 million tonnes.
