Construction Officially Begins on India's 64 MW AI Data Center
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) and India's RMZ announced that construction has officially begun on Mumbai 3, their third AI data center in Navi Mumbai, India, with a planned power capacity of 64 MW. The project is part of the US$1.7 billion data center investment plan announced by the two parties in 2024. Site preparation work began in December 2025. All capacity has now been pre-leased, and the first hyperscale data center customer has been signed.

Mumbai 3 is located within Colt DCS's existing Navi Mumbai data center campus and will join the already operational Mumbai 1 and Mumbai 2 to form a data center cluster. Once the new facility is completed, the campus's operational capacity will increase to 86 MW. Under the long-term development plan, the campus will ultimately be able to provide up to 148 MW of capacity, serving large enterprises, cloud service providers, and AI infrastructure operators.
The new data center adopts a hybrid cooling architecture combining traditional air cooling with direct-to-chip liquid cooling, and is configured with 64 MW of contracted power capacity, with a focus on supporting high-density computing and AI training and inference workloads. The campus is equipped with a 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation and is connected to high-capacity fiber-optic communication lines, adopting a carrier-neutral network connectivity model that supports access by different communications service providers.
The project plans to use 100% renewable energy for power supply, and the cooling system adopts a closed-loop design to reduce water consumption and cooling wastewater discharge. Colt DCS and RMZ expect that the project will create more than 700 jobs during construction and operation, and will involve local engineering contractors, equipment suppliers, and service companies in the related construction and operations.
This construction is part of the two parties' long-term joint investment arrangement in India's data center market. Under the cooperation plan established in 2024, the two companies intend to invest US$1.7 billion to develop a total of 250 MW of data center capacity in Mumbai and Chennai. Colt DCS provides hyperscale data center development and operational capabilities, while RMZ participates in local infrastructure investment, development, and asset management.
