Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 12, Haesong Offshore Wind Company has signed a grid interconnection agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) for the Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and Haesong Offshore Wind 3 projects. These projects are located off the west coast of Shinan, Jeonnam.
The Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and 3 projects are financed and managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Project development, including permitting, implementation, and technical planning, is being led by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), an offshore wind development company under CIP.
The new agreement secures the connection of 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy from the Haesong 1 and 3 projects to KEPCO’s grid. This represents a key step in advancing the project toward full-scale execution.
Jonathan Spink, CEO of COP Korea, stated: “This agreement marks a significant milestone in the full-scale implementation of the Haesong Offshore Wind 1∙3 Projects. It also serves as a catalyst for Korea’s clean energy transition by securing stable transmission infrastructure, and we expect it to make a substantial contribution to the nationwide expansion of renewable energy, beyond just the Shinan region.”
According to the company, this is the first time a major offshore wind project in the Shinan area has received KEPCO’s commitment to utilize a 345 kV joint grid connection method. This grid solution allows multiple developers to efficiently share infrastructure.
Jungwoo Hong, Strategic Grid Director at Haesong Offshore Wind Company, said: “We will successfully carry out the subsequent steps including participation in wind power fixed-price auction and construction of grid connection facilities while also expanding joint use with neighbouring developers and advancing supply chain strategies. This will help invigorate the broader offshore wind ecosystem in the region and establish Shinan as a key hub of Korea’s offshore wind industry.”
To support construction and implementation, the developer has signed two preferred supplier agreements. LS Cable & System has been designated as the preferred supplier of subsea cables, and LS Marine Solution, its subsidiary, has been selected as the preferred bidder for installation works.
The Haesong projects are expected to contribute significantly to Korea’s renewable energy targets by introducing large-scale offshore wind capacity and strengthening local industry partnerships. The ongoing collaboration among CIP, COP, KEPCO, and local suppliers supports long-term development of renewable infrastructure and supply chain capabilities in the region.
