en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 29, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) launched green ammonia field demonstration trials in Kashila village, Daryapur area, Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh, covering 7 districts of the state. The trials are led by the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone III, Kanpur, in collaboration with the ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research (IIFSR), Meerut, focusing on evaluating nitrogen use efficiency, crop yield, and cultivation costs when green ammonia replaces conventional urea fertilization.

The trials use specialized application equipment to inject ammonia into the soil at a specified depth, delivering nitrogen to the crop root zone. The trials set up a comparison between green ammonia application and conventional urea nitrogen management to study crop growth, nitrogen utilization, and nutrient loss under different fertilization methods. ICAR requires operators to receive professional training and to comply with safety requirements during ammonia transportation, storage, and field application.

The Bulandshahr Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is responsible for local field demonstrations and monitoring. Researchers will continuously collect data on crop growth conditions, actual harvested yields, nitrogen fertilizer application rates, nitrogen use efficiency, and agricultural input costs. The research team will compare the agronomic performance and economic costs of green ammonia versus conventional urea fertilization based on the trial data.

The Uttar Pradesh trials are jointly organized by ICAR-ATARI, Zone III, and ICAR-IIFSR, Meerut, with the Bulandshahr KVK and surrounding KVKs participating in implementation. The on-site launch event on October 29 was attended by heads of relevant research institutions, KVK researchers, and local farmers.
