en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero granted development consent for the Frodsham Solar project owned by Cubico Sustainable Investments. The project is located at Frodsham Marsh, north of the town of Frodsham in Cheshire, England, and is planned to comprise ground-mounted solar photovoltaic generation facilities and a co-located battery energy storage system, connected to the existing Frodsham substation.

According to disclosures on the project development website, the current Frodsham Solar scheme has an indicative generation capacity of approximately 150 MW, and the final scale may still be adjusted as the design is further developed. The project has signed a grid connection agreement with SP Energy Networks, with a maximum capacity of 100 MW to export power to the existing Frodsham substation. The developer states that once built, the project is expected to generate enough electricity each year to meet the demand of approximately 40,000 households. It should be noted that approximately 150 MW is the project's indicative generation capacity, while 100 MW is the grid export capacity; these are not the same metric.

In addition to the solar photovoltaic facilities, the project will also include a battery energy storage system to store electricity and release it according to grid demand, thereby enhancing the flexibility of renewable energy supply. The project plan also includes dedicated power lines connecting to nearby businesses, enabling part of the electricity to be supplied directly to surrounding industrial users. The site is adjacent to the existing Frodsham Wind Farm and the Protos Energy Hub, and once completed, the project is expected to create synergies with local wind power and energy infrastructure.

According to the project proposal published by Cubico, the works will also include more than 5 km of public access routes and landscape and habitat enhancement measures; the construction phase is expected to create more than 100 full-time equivalent jobs. Following the grant of development consent, Cubico will advance subsequent project work and construction preparation, and continue to engage with the local community and relevant stakeholders.
