T-Mobile Partners with Two Companies to Complete 400 MHz Pre-6G Test
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 3, U.S. telecom operator T-Mobile, Swedish communications equipment manufacturer Ericsson, and Taiwan, China-based chip company MediaTek jointly announced the results of a pre-6G multi-vendor wireless communication test. In September, the three parties conducted pre-6G air interface connection verification using 400 MHz contiguous channel bandwidth at T-Mobile's 6G Innovation Center in Bellevue, Washington, USA. The test achieved a minimum end-to-end latency of 4 milliseconds, validating interoperability between wireless infrastructure and terminal prototype platforms from different vendors.

The test employed pre-6G radio access infrastructure provided by Ericsson and a pre-6G user equipment proof-of-concept platform developed by MediaTek, establishing a real-time wireless connection through T-Mobile's trial network. The equipment from both parties completed end-to-end communication verification in the same test environment, covering collaborative operation among radio access equipment, terminal prototypes, and the operator's network.
The test used 400 MHz of contiguous spectrum resources for downlink communication verification, while the MediaTek terminal prototype also supported 200 MHz uplink channel bandwidth. The test results announced by the three parties show that the technology has the potential to achieve peak downlink rates exceeding 5 Gbps and uplink rates exceeding 2 Gbps. Actual testing has verified end-to-end latency as low as 4 milliseconds.
In this test, MediaTek validated the terminal prototype's support for 400 MHz downlink bandwidth and 200 MHz uplink bandwidth. The related configurations are consistent with the direction of 6G terminal capability development discussed at the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Radio Access Network plenary meetings.
The three parties completed a pre-standard 6G multi-vendor wireless connection proof of concept, with test results covering wireless device interoperability, wideband channel connectivity, and end-to-end latency performance. MediaTek and Ericsson will continue technical verification around pre-6G terminal capabilities and wireless infrastructure, while T-Mobile will leverage its 6G Innovation Center to advance related network testing work.
