GE Vernova UHVDC converter station project

Under the scope of this award, GE Vernova will be responsible for the overall design of the bipolar high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system from Barmer II to South Kalamb, including the construction of new converter stations, the supply of major equipment, and the management of on-site installation, testing, and commissioning. The project adopts line-commutated converter (LCC) technology, with a designed operating voltage of ±800 kV and a rated transmission capacity of 6,000 MW.

The converter stations will use GE Vernova's LCC converter valves, and the related equipment is planned to be manufactured at the company's facility in Pallavaram, India. The project will also be equipped with the eLumina power control system, which will perform converter station operation control and power flow management functions. Both the converter valve manufacturing and the control system supply are part of the project deliverables disclosed in this announcement.

According to a stock exchange filing submitted by GE Vernova's India transmission and distribution company on November 4, the company received notification on September 7 of its qualification as the lowest bidder (L1) for the project, and received the formal Letter of Award from PGCIL on November 3. The two parties will subsequently sign the final contract documents.
