Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 25, CB&I, a global designer and builder of storage facilities, has secured a contract from Lithium Nevada to deliver engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction services for 36 flat-bottom atmospheric tanks at the Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada, United States. The value of the contract is estimated between $50 million and $100 million.

The contract is valued between $50m and $100m.

According to CB&I, the tanks will be used to store process solutions, chemicals, and products involved in the purification stages required to extract lithium from clay deposits. They are designed to meet strict environmental, seismic, and safety standards, and will be built using CB&I’s proprietary field construction techniques and fabrication expertise.

Mark Butts, CB&I president and CEO, stated: “We are proud to support Lithium Nevada and Bechtel in delivering a lithium project of national significance. Thacker Pass will help enable a US supply of lithium and create well-paying jobs during construction and operations. Our team is honoured to contribute CB&I’s legacy of tank engineering and construction excellence to this important project.”

Lithium Nevada, a subsidiary of Lithium Americas, is the developer of Thacker Pass, located in northern Nevada’s Humboldt County. The project is regarded as one of the largest lithium developments in North America and is expected to strengthen the domestic supply chain for lithium batteries. By supporting the production of lithium, it aims to reduce reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals.

Richard Gerspacher, executive vice-president of Lithium Americas, commented: “CB&I’s expertise in large-scale storage infrastructure for complex industrial processes that require precise specifications, and reliability makes them a great fit for Thacker Pass. CB&I’s proven track record, global expertise, and experience with industrial storage solutions makes them an ideal partner for this critical infrastructure component to support North America’s largest lithium mining project.”

The Thacker Pass initiative is being managed by Bechtel, which serves as the engineering, procurement, and construction management contractor. Dan Dawson, Bechtel’s deputy project director, said: “CB&I is an example of the industry-leading contractors and suppliers that have joined the team delivering Thacker Pass. We welcome them to the project and look forward to seeing the tanks take shape as the plant comes together.”

With its significant scale, Thacker Pass is anticipated to play a central role in building a sustainable domestic lithium industry. The collaboration among Lithium Nevada, Bechtel, and CB&I brings together expertise in project management, industrial engineering, and storage solutions to support the successful development of this major project.

The construction of the 36 atmospheric tanks is a key step in advancing the site toward operations, ensuring that critical infrastructure is in place for the extraction and processing of lithium. The partnership highlights the importance of reliable engineering and construction capabilities in delivering projects that are positioned to support long-term industrial and energy objectives.
