The facility is dedicated to Hydrolite 5 green, a high-quality biobased pentylene glycol developed by the company’s Cosmetic Ingredients division. The new unit provides European customers with a shorter supply chain and ensures a reliable supply of this product for the global market.

The plant is modeled on Symrise’s existing Hydrolite 5 green production facility in Charleston, USA, and represents a significant investment. With the added capacity, Symrise can meet the increasing global demand for this multifunctional ingredient. Hydrolite 5 green enhances skin hydration and strengthens hair fibers, while also allowing formulators to create improved sensorial profiles and increase the performance of active ingredients.

By establishing production within Europe, Symrise reduces transport distances and supply chain complexity, helping customers to lower their Scope 3 emissions, which are indirect greenhouse gas emissions. The plant also supports the local community in Granada by creating jobs in areas such as operations, purchasing, and engineering. The facility sets new standards in efficiency and sustainability by recycling and upcycling by-products, further underscoring Symrise’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The new site strengthens Symrise’s global leadership in 1,2-alkanediol production and advances its position in chemical engineering. The unit operates with a continuous production process, which guarantees consistent product quality and high energy efficiency. It incorporates an on-site hydrogen generation system with a closed-loop recycling design, ensuring optimized hydrogen use and reduced environmental impact. High levels of automation further enhance safety and operational performance.
