Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 24, Norway’s natural gas production averaged 326.26 million standard cubic meters per day (MMscmd) during the first three quarters of 2025, down from 341.25 MMscmd in the same period last year, according to data released by the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD).
Norway averaged 326.26 million standard cubic meters a day in natural gas production in the first three quarters, down from 341.25 MMscmd in the same nine-month period last year.
For September 2025, preliminary figures showed an output of 282.1 MMscmd, representing a 15.6 percent decline from August but a 17.2 percent increase compared to September 2024. The September result was 1.9 percent lower than the NOD’s forecast for the month.
Norway’s gas sales reached 8.5 billion standard cubic meters in September, a decrease of 1.9 billion cubic meters from the previous month. Despite the month-on-month decline, the country maintained its leading role as Europe’s top gas supplier.
According to the European Commission’s latest quarterly gas market report covering the first quarter of 2025, Norway remained the European Union’s largest gas supplier, providing 31 percent, or 21.7 billion cubic meters (Bcm), of total imports. It also accounted for 55 percent, or 20.6 Bcm, of the EU’s pipeline gas supply. Norway’s share of the EU’s piped gas imports increased by five percentage points compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, following the conclusion of the Ukraine-Russia gas transit agreement.
Norway’s oil production in September averaged 1.82 million barrels per day (MMbpd), down seven percent from August but up 13.7 percent compared with the same month last year. The figure exceeded the NOD’s forecast by 5.4 percent.
Total liquids production, including oil, natural gas liquids (NGL) and condensate, averaged 1.99 MMbpd, showing a 7.8 percent monthly decline but a 14.8 percent annual increase. “Preliminary production figures for September 2025 show an average daily production of 1,991,000 barrels of oil, NGL and condensate,” the NOD stated.
“The total petroleum production so far in 2025 is about 176.2 million Sm3 oil equivalents (MSm3 o.e.), consisting of approximately 78.5 MSm3 o.e. of oil, 8.7 MSm3 o.e. of NGL and condensate, and 89.4 MSm3 o.e. of gas for sale,” the agency added. “The total volume is 4.5 MSm3 o.e. less than 2024.”
In its second-quarter results, Equinor ASA, which is majority owned by the Norwegian state, reported equity gas production of 704,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) and equity liquids production of 655,000 boed. The company noted: “New production from the Johan Castberg field reaching plateau and Halten East contributed. Together, this offset natural decline, impact from the turnaround at Hammerfest LNG and maintenance at the Kollsnes processing plant.”
Equinor expects its global production to increase by about four percent in 2025, despite an estimated 30,000 boed impact from scheduled maintenance activities.
