en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno Huamaní, held a meeting with the Regional Governor of Puno, Richard Hancco Soncco, to discuss progress on initiatives aimed at extending the benefits of natural gas to residents of the region, with the goal of reducing local energy costs. Deputy Minister of Hydrocarbons, Iris Cárdenas Pino, attended the meeting.

During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of developing new natural gas reserves, noting that this would help strengthen energy security and meet domestic demand over the coming decades. To this end, the significance of developing the reserves of the Candamo gas field was highlighted. According to the Regional Governor, this initiative has already received support from the regional governments of Cusco and Madre de Dios, and is expected to drive increased investment and the construction of new transportation infrastructure, promoting the development of southern Peru.

The meeting also addressed progress on the construction project for the regasification plant and gas distribution network in Puno. This project, financed by the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), involves natural gas transmission works in the cities of Juliaca, Azángaro, and Ilave. Minister Shinno reaffirmed that Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) is advancing a natural gas expansion project covering 7 regions in central and southern Peru, with the Puno region already included, achieving 50% energy savings compared to other energy resources.

Minister Shinno stated that advancing these projects requires the support and assistance of all regional governors, and that efforts should now focus on extending the benefits of natural gas to all regions, allowing households to save on basic living expenses and providing motorists with a more economical fuel. The meeting confirmed the intent of Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines and regional governments to collaborate on natural gas expansion and investment project implementation, with projects designed to serve national development and improve the living conditions of millions of Peruvians.
