Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 28, ENGIE North America has expanded its renewable energy collaboration with Meta through additional power purchase agreements (PPAs), bringing the total partnership to over 1,300MW across four projects in Texas. The new agreements include the 600MW Swenson Ranch Solar project in Stonewall County, southeast of Lubbock, marking ENGIE’s largest solar development to date. Meta will purchase the full output of the project to power its US data centre operations.

The Swenson Ranch Solar project represents a $900 million investment and will employ more than 350 workers during construction. Operations are expected to start in 2027, with the project projected to generate over $158 million in tax revenues for Stonewall County and its local hospital district over its lifetime.

“We are excited to continue the expansion of our relationship with Meta,” said Dave Carroll, Chief Executive and Chief Renewables Officer at ENGIE North America. “Our objective is to bring reliable, cost-competitive power to the grid as rapidly as possible, and projects like Swenson demonstrate the importance of solar to meet the timely needs of our customers.”

Meta’s Head of Global Energy, Urvi Parekh, commented: “We are thrilled to bring an additional 600MW of solar energy to the grid, and expand our partnership with ENGIE to 1.3GW. Our collaboration enables us to continue matching 100% of our electricity use with clean and renewable energy to support our data centre operations.”

ENGIE said the Swenson Ranch project will form part of its 11GW portfolio of operating and in-construction solar, wind, and battery assets across North America. The expansion demonstrates both companies’ commitment to renewable energy adoption and supporting large-scale infrastructure for data centres while contributing to local economic development.

The project highlights the growing role of solar energy in Texas, combining large-scale renewable generation with local employment opportunities and significant fiscal contributions. By integrating solar output into the grid, the project also supports regional energy stability and strengthens ENGIE’s strategy of providing reliable, low-carbon electricity solutions.

Through this expanded partnership, ENGIE and Meta aim to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy capacity while ensuring that corporate energy demand is fully met by clean power sources. The collaboration reflects a broader trend of technology companies partnering with energy providers to achieve sustainability targets and reduce reliance on conventional electricity generation.

Construction and operational planning for Swenson Ranch Solar will leverage ENGIE’s expertise in large-scale solar development, ensuring timely completion and alignment with environmental and regulatory standards. Once operational, the project will further cement the role of renewable energy in meeting both corporate and regional electricity needs.
