Jason Spears, CPB Contractors’ managing director, said: “Our team has a strong connection to the community, and we look forward to building on this with training, employment and procurement opportunities for local people and businesses.”

Juan Santamaría, Cimic’s group executive chairman, added: “This upgrade will enhance safety, reduce congestion, and futureproof the corridor against climate and population pressures – delivering long-term value for Queenslanders.”

The project represents the first of two upgrade stages for the Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway in North Brisbane. Construction will commence after the completion of detailed design work, marking the start of significant improvements to one of Queensland’s major transport corridors.

The works aim to improve traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure resilience, while also providing local employment and business opportunities throughout the construction phase. The inclusion of wildlife underpasses and fencing demonstrates a commitment to environmental protection alongside infrastructure development.

This upgrade will support future population growth and increasing vehicle demand in the region, ensuring the corridor can handle higher traffic volumes efficiently. The project also contributes to long-term strategic planning for Queensland’s transport network by modernizing key road links and preparing for emerging climate-related challenges.

Overall, the contract emphasizes community engagement, safety, and sustainability, with BMD Group, CPB Contractors, and Georgiou combining expertise to deliver a high-standard transport upgrade. The initiative reflects a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development, balancing engineering innovation, environmental protection, and local economic benefits.
