Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 26, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has selected Honeywell International Inc. to provide advanced process technology, proprietary catalysts, equipment, and related services for a major expansion of its Lekki refinery in Nigeria. The project will increase refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, making the facility the world’s largest single-train refinery.

The upgrade will enable Dangote to process a broader range of crude oils while maximising use of existing infrastructure, improving efficiency, reducing operating costs, and accelerating the expansion timeline.

Honeywell has supplied process technology to the Lekki complex for nearly ten years. The new agreement includes licensing of Honeywell UOP Oleflex technology, which converts propane to propylene via catalytic dehydrogenation. This will add 750,000 metric tons per year of propylene capacity, raising total polypropylene production at the site to 2.4 million metric tons annually.

The expanded refinery will continue producing Euro-V quality gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and petrochemical products, strengthening domestic supply and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuels. The project supports broader objectives for industrial development and enhanced energy availability across the region.

Honeywell's solutions, already deployed in over 6,000 refineries and industrial plants worldwide, will help Dangote achieve higher throughput and operational reliability while meeting international product specifications. Completion of the capacity doubling by 2028 will position the Lekki facility as a key hub for both refined products and petrochemical feedstocks on the African continent.
