Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 29, Ethio telecom has officially opened its third Super-Fast Electric Vehicle Charging Station in the Summit-Fyel Bet area of Addis Ababa, further expanding Ethiopia's modern EV charging network.

The new facility, equipped with advanced artificial intelligence technology, features 16 super-fast chargers capable of delivering up to 180 kWh each. It can serve up to 16 vehicles simultaneously and automatically adapts to different vehicle specifications, including European EV models. With this addition, Ethio telecom's three stations now provide a combined capacity to charge 48 vehicles at once.

The company previously commissioned two stations along the Bole–Megenagna corridor with capacity for 32 vehicles. Since operations began on 11 February 2025, these facilities have served more than 165,000 electric vehicles and delivered over 4.35 million kilowatt-hours of energy. This has prevented the release of approximately 6.08 million kilograms of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting over 30,444 trees.

Key features of the new station include AI-driven intelligent diagnostics that analyse battery conditions and optimise charging, ensuring maximum efficiency and battery health protection. The infrastructure is designed for future scalability, enabling quick and cost-effective expansion as demand grows.

The station operates 24 hours a day and is fully integrated with the telebirr SuperApp, offering seamless digital services: contactless NFC tap-to-charge authentication, real-time monitoring, secure payment processing, and self-service functionality. High-reliability connectivity is supported through fibre, 4G, and 5G networks.
