Wedoany.com Report-Dec.30, Yang Xiaobin, Member of the Party Committee and President of Hainan Airport Group Co., Ltd., stated on the 12th that the passenger throughput of the three major airports on Hainan Island is expected to exceed 50 million for the first time this year, setting a new historical record; the annual passenger throughput for international routes is projected to surpass 2.4 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 30%.

Yang Xiaobin presented the "report card" for Hainan's aviation industry during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period at a special press conference on the development and reform achievements of Hainan's transportation sector during that period on the 12th.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Hainan has continuously enhanced the "supporting capacity" of its airports. Following the overall layout of building a free trade port airport cluster with "one main, one secondary, two branches, and one cargo hub," Hainan completed the renovation of the international transit area at Haikou Meilan Airport and carried out expansion projects for the third phases of Sanya Phoenix Airport and Qionghai Bo'ao Airport. Upon the operation of these projects, the three island airports will have the capacity to handle an annual passenger throughput of 68 million.

Hainan is accelerating the development of an aviation regional gateway hub facing the Pacific and Indian Oceans, continuously densifying and optimizing its "air network." Yang Xiaobin stated that Hainan is persistently expanding medium and long-haul routes, including transcontinental ones. In 2025, the proportion of medium and long-haul routes operated by wide-body aircraft in the province increased from 10% to 20%, significantly improving connectivity between Hainan and regions such as Europe, America, Oceania, and the Middle East. The "Fifth Freedom" passenger and cargo routes achieved a breakthrough from "zero" during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, with 7 routes already operated in 2025. Hainan has significantly increased international transit routes, continuously adding frequency and density to flights connecting with international and regional hub ports like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand, greatly enhancing the accessibility of international transit.

He introduced that this year, Hainan's international passenger routes will exceed 90, connecting 42 cities in 21 countries and regions including Hong Kong and Macao, forming a "Two-Ocean Hub" pattern that basically covers RCEP countries and connects regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Hainan has continuously improved its aviation service levels. Adopting a "time limit management" approach focused on passenger travel concerns, it has worked to minimize the time required for check-in, security checks, and baggage claim, thereby consistently enhancing passenger satisfaction and effectively increasing passenger throughput. At the same time, by systematically integrating flight operation resources across the island, the flight punctuality rate has significantly improved from 84.96% at the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period to 92.53%.
