Wedoany.com Report on Feb 9th, the newly revised national standard "General Rules for Safe Service Life and Recycling of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances" has officially come into effect. It requires household appliances to be marked with their safe service life, providing guidance for consumers' use.

The revised national standard "General Rules for Safe Service Life and Recycling of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances" focuses on the safety hazards caused by the extended service of old appliances. It stipulates that appliance manufacturers should indicate the safe service life of their products; it also clarifies that the safe service life label for household appliances should be expressed in text or symbols and should be marked on the product or in the user manual. In addition to the product's safe service life, the label should also include risk warning information for using products beyond their safe service life.

The new national standard stipulates that the safe service life is calculated from the date of the consumer's first purchase; for products that require professional installation for normal use, it is calculated from the date of first completed installation.

The safe service life of household appliances shall not be less than the "three guarantees" period of the main (spare) parts; manufacturers should comprehensively consider the influencing factors in the entire process of appliance production, use, and maintenance, and formulate effective preventive measures through risk management and risk assessment to ensure the product can be used stably and reliably within the set lifespan.

The design phase of household appliances must fully consider recycling

In addition to requiring the marking of the safe service life of appliances, the new national standard also stipulates rules for the recycling and reuse of household appliances, promoting the transformation of the home appliance industry towards a green circular economy.

The new national standard "General Rules for Safe Service Life and Recycling of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances" requires that the product design phase fully considers recycling, prioritizing environmentally friendly materials and processes that are easy to recycle and low in pollution, thereby improving the recyclability of products from the source. Furthermore, the standard requires that the recycling and processing stage prioritize reuse, maximizing the reutilization of components and parts. The implementation of this new national standard will help promote the transformation of China's home appliance quality and safety management model from "post-event supervision" to "whole-cycle prevention and control," connecting the links of production, consumption, and recycling. It will guide consumers to pay attention to the safe service life of appliances, avoid the safety risks associated with using products beyond their service life, and promote the industry's transition towards a green circular economy.
