Wedoany.com Report-Nov 28, The two companies achieve over 80% CO₂-free steel transport by rail.

Tata Steel Netherlands and DB Cargo have signed a contract to transport steel coils by train using green electricity. This agreement results in more than 80% of Tata Steel's rail transport with DB Cargo being CO₂-free, aligning with the company's environmental objectives.

Each year, 1.2 million tons of steel are moved from IJmuiden to Tata Steel's production sites and customers across the Netherlands and Europe, primarily using DB Cargo's wagons. By transitioning to green electricity for rail transport, Tata Steel is taking steps to reduce emissions within its logistics chain.

Annually, Tata Steel produces and transports between 6 to 7 million tons of steel to downstream locations and customers worldwide. Aiming for zero emissions in its supply chain, the company is working to optimize its global transport network to be as safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly as possible.

In recent years, efforts have been made to increase the use of inland shipping and rail for steel transport, reducing reliance on road haulage. As of 2024, over 20% of all steel dispatched to customers or third parties is transported by train.
