What is a Roots Blower:
A Roots blower is a twin-rotor positive displacement compressor in which the axes of the two rotors are parallel to each other. Each rotor consists of an impeller combined with a shaft, and there are minimal clearances between the impellers, and between the impellers and the casing and end plates, to prevent contact. The impellers, together with the casing and end plates, enclose a fixed displacement volume whose size remains unchanged during rotation. The two rotors are driven by a prime mover through a pair of timing gears, rotating in opposite directions at equal speeds, pushing the inhaled gas from the suction port to the discharge port without internal compression, thereby completing the gas conveying process.
