en.Wedoany.com Reported - The UAE government-backed Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EtihadWE) is advancing the construction of the Fujairah desalination plant to address the rising water demand in the local residential and industrial sectors.

Lantania NMDC Water, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi's NMDC Infra and Spain's Lantania Aguas, has won the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the Fujairah Independent Water Producer Project. The project is valued at approximately AED 1 billion (around USD 270 million), though the specific EPC contract amount has not been disclosed.
According to the UAE's state news agency WAM, the desalination plant will utilize reverse osmosis technology with a daily capacity of 60 million imperial gallons and will include storage facilities capable of holding 18 hours' worth of produced water.
This is EtihadWE's second project procured under a public-private partnership model, following the Umm Al Quwain Naqa'a desalination plant. The new plant will be located within the Port of Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman, providing convenient access to both marine and onshore infrastructure. Once operational, it will meet the water needs of households, businesses, and industries in Fujairah and EtihadWE's service areas.
The project is expected to be completed and delivered within 30 months.
