en.Wedoany.com Reported - U.S. nonprofit climate organization Cool Effect has partnered with Indian climate technology company Mitti Labs to expand its methane reduction carbon credit portfolio, focusing on reducing methane emissions from rice cultivation in India through alternative irrigation practices.

Rice cultivation accounts for approximately 12% of global methane emissions due to traditional flooding methods, while also consuming significant freshwater resources. Mitti Labs implements Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technology, which can reduce methane emissions and water usage without compromising yields.

The company states this technology can reduce water usage by 40% and methane emissions by 50%. Mitti Labs has already partnered with over 70,000 farmers across six Indian states, using a digital monitoring system that combines ground measurements with remote sensing technology to verify emission reductions.

Cool Effect indicates that demand for high-integrity carbon credits with measurable climate benefits continues to grow in the voluntary carbon market. Between 2024 and 2025, 64% of the carbon credits it purchased focused on super pollutant projects, with purchases exceeding 3.3 million tonnes and over $36 million paid to project developers.

"We are proud to welcome Mitti Labs to our portfolio," said Jodi Manning, CEO of Cool Effect.

Mitti Labs plans to scale its annual issuance to approximately 2 million carbon credits by 2028. This development reflects increased attention on methane reduction projects as demand for high-integrity carbon credits rises.
