en.Wedoany.com Reported - Japanese crane manufacturer Tadano has recently updated its crane AI assistant app, heyTadano, to version 1.3. The app now features voice activation, allowing operators to access operational information hands-free. The updated app features a redesigned in-cab interface, enabling operators to ask the AI assistant questions and receive responses including operating instructions, technical troubleshooting, crane specification queries, and fault diagnosis. The company states that the app's model is trained on all Tadano crane operator manuals and other relevant documentation.

In terms of functionality, the iOS version allows operators to wake the AI assistant hands-free using the voice command "Hey Tadano," while the Android version requires operators to use a push-to-talk feature for voice input. Similar to popular AI applications like ChatGPT, heyTadano records chat history and organizes it through the AI assistant, facilitating quick retrieval of information from conversations later. Operators can start new conversations based on the specific crane model they are operating or the content of their query, and the app will provide the Tadano manual sources corresponding to the cited facts.

This update earned Tadano the "AI in Communications Design" award at the 2026 German Design Award. The jury cited the app's clear product categorization, consistent user interface design, and optimized user guidance flow as reasons for the award. The app is available for free download and supports over 50 languages.

At the industry level, other construction machinery manufacturers are also making moves in the AI voice assistant space. Caterpillar launched its Cat AI Assistant at the Consumer Electronics Show in the United States earlier this year. Caterpillar stated that the assistant aims to enhance safety and efficiency on the job site through data utilization and digital workflows.
