Wedoany.com Report-Feb 25, Mari Petroleum has reported a new oil and gas discovery in Pakistan’s Waziristan Block, marking a positive development for the country’s petroleum sector. The company, serving as the primary operator with a 55% stake, collaborates with the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Orient Petroleum Inc. (OPI) in this joint venture. The find at the Spinam-1-1 well, drilled on May 28, 2024, is projected to yield 12.96 million cubic feet of gas and 20 barrels of condensate daily, boosting the nation’s hydrocarbon reserves.

The exploration effort reflects Mari Petroleum’s dedication to expanding Pakistan’s energy resources. Support from national security institutions, along with federal and provincial governments, has played a key role in this achievement. The Waziristan Block discovery strengthens the company’s portfolio and contributes to meeting domestic energy demands.

Separately, Mari Petroleum disclosed another milestone with an oil discovery at the Shawal-1 well in the Mari Development and Production Lease (D&PL) in Sindh. The company notified the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) of this success on Monday, following drilling that began on January 27, 2024. The well reached a depth of 1,136 meters into the Ghazij Formation. During testing, it produced 1,040 barrels of crude oil daily, with an API gravity of about 30 degrees and 12% Basic Sediment & Water (BS&W). The well also delivered 2.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of associated gas at a wellhead flowing pressure of 953 pounds per square inch, using a 32/64-inch choke.

This marks the first oil discovery in the Mari D&PL, an area operated solely by Mari Petroleum with a 100% stake. The lease has been producing gas since 1967, making the addition of oil a significant step forward. The company highlighted the technical success of its exploration strategy in unlocking new resources.

Both discoveries underscore Mari Petroleum’s ongoing efforts to enhance Pakistan’s energy security. The Spinam-1-1 well in Waziristan and the Shawal-1 well in Sindh demonstrate the potential of untapped reserves in diverse regions. The company’s leadership emphasized: “We remain committed to advancing hydrocarbon exploration to support the nation’s energy needs.” These outputs are expected to contribute to Pakistan’s economic stability by reducing reliance on imported fuels.

The collaboration in Waziristan and the independent operation in Sindh reflect a blend of teamwork and expertise. Data from the wells, including production rates and geological details, have been verified through testing, ensuring reliability. Mari Petroleum continues to prioritize exploration, leveraging institutional backing and technical capabilities to expand its footprint in Pakistan’s energy landscape. These developments highlight a steady progression in the country’s petroleum industry, driven by precise planning and execution.
