Pakistan Oil and Gas Development Company's New Gas Well Produces 7 Million Cubic Feet of Natural Gas per Day
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 22, Pakistan Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced that the Bitrism East-1 exploration well in Khairpur District, Sindh Province, has officially commenced production, currently producing 7 million standard cubic feet of natural gas and 200 barrels of condensate per day. The well produces from the basal sandstone of the Lower Goru Formation. The associated 28-kilometer gas transmission pipeline has been put into service, and the produced gas enters the local gas network after processing at the Sinjhoro processing plant.

The Bitrism East-1 well was spud on June 30, 2025, and was drilled to a depth of 3,800 meters in the Sembar Formation. On October 1 of the same year, OGDCL announced that the well had discovered natural gas and condensate in two intervals: the thick sandstone and the basal sandstone of the Lower Goru Formation. According to the results of two drill stem tests conducted at that time, the well had a combined tested daily potential of 22.5 million standard cubic feet of natural gas and 690 barrels of condensate. The initial production from this commissioning comes from the basal sandstone interval, and OGDCL plans to gradually increase output as the well flow stabilizes.
During the transition from discovery to production, OGDCL used its own engineering resources to lay an 8-inch diameter, approximately 28-kilometer gathering pipeline connecting the wellhead to the Sinjhoro gas processing plant. The processed natural gas has now been delivered into the transmission network operated by Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL). OGDCL did not disclose the pipeline investment amount, the additional processing capacity at the processing plant, or the specific timeline for subsequent production increases.
According to the latest ownership structure disclosed on October 22, 2026, OGDCL holds a 77.5% working interest in the Bitrism exploration license and serves as the operator, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 22.5%. This ratio differs from the 95% and 5% stated in the 2025 discovery announcement; the data disclosed in the latest securities market announcement is used here.
