Wedoany.com Report-Feb 28, The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) is planning to run a pilot that would see turbine blades painted black to see whether this would reduce bird collisions.
A Defra spokesperson told reNEWS.biz: “The UK is home to many globally significant populations of seabirds.
“This pilot aims to test whether turbine blade painting will reduce bird collisions - helping ensure nature recovery goes hand-in-hand with making Britain a clean energy superpower."
The pilot has not started yet and the government agency has declined to provide further details of it.
A previous onshore study from Norway found that painting a turbine blade black reduced bird collision instances.
